The Mandate of the Customs Committee

The Customs Committee of CIFFA has emerged from being a watch dog to that of a profoundly functional member of the customs consultative structure. With the expansion of government initiatives to facilitate trade, the committee has become extremely active during the past two years.

Mindful of the needs of our members, the committee plays a strong role with Customs, particularly in the drafting of new or changing programs. The expanding use of the paperless
environment is gradually being endorsed by various government departments, thereby requiring acceptable interfaces with forwarders to facilitate the efficient movement of trade.

Customs is downloading responsibility on stakeholders as a component of a Self-Assessment Program. The committee is working to ensure that the delegation is restricted to the park of working with Customs that the forwarder can control. Our responsibility is to protect the interests of our members at all times."
