Description:
Moving beyond the ordinary, Specialized Freight Services explores the details of marine cargo, project cargoes and chartering vessels or aircraft. Regulatory compliance is emphasized in an in depth discussion of Customs while transportation law and legal liability are addressed through International Conventions and CIFFA’s Standard Trading Conditions.
Program Goals:
Upon successful completion of this program you will be able to:
- Name and describe types of ships, their use, and the type of cargo they carry
- Describe different types of marine terminals, their operation and equipment used
- Identify the key aspects of chartering a vessel
- Describe different types of charter available, identify chartering terms and the contract
- Describe why and how to charter an aircraft
- Identify the terms of the contract and how to comply with the terms
- Describe the process of awarding a project
- Describe how a project is handled and how to avoid costly mistakes
- Describe customs processes, voluntary compliance and doing business with CBSA
- Identify the basic principles of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
- Interpret the structure of the Harmonized System (HS)
- Describe the release systems and accounting process
- Identify the benefits of the Customs Self-Assessment Program (CSA) and Advance Commercial Information (ACI) and the components of the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS)
- Analyze complications and advanced issues in customs procedures
- Define the terms “law” and “legal liability” and identify the sources of law in Canada
- List areas regulated by federal and provincial governments
- Define the role of and list the international conventions important in international transportation
- Describe the elements of a binding contract and available remedies
- Outline the obligations, roles and responsibilities of the customer and the freight forwarder under the CIFFA Standard Trading Conditions
- Identify the insurance matters and risk management
Target Audience:
This program is primarily designed
to meet the education needs of two main groups:
- Individuals who have experience in the international transportation, trade,
logistics and supply chain industries and wish to acquire advanced skills and
knowledge to make them more employable.
- Individuals currently working in the international transportation, trade,
logistics and supply chain industries, but wish to upgrade their new skills and
knowledge for possible career advancement.
Prerequisites:
There are no
prerequisites, but knowledge of the international transportation, trade,
logistics and supply chain industries will be beneficial.
Good knowledge of English (verbal, writing and reading) is a must,
as is knowledge of basic mathematical calculations.
Completion of International Transportation and Trade; and Essentails of Freight Forwarding programs is recommended.
Participants wishing
to receive an Advanced Certificate must hold a Certificate and successfully complete Specialized Freight Services; and Supply Chain Management and Marketing within three calendar years. |
