TORONTO, July 17 – CIFFA is pleased to announce that Kendyl Baptiste, of Bolloré Logistics, will represent the Americas Region at the Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year contest at the FIATA World Congress in Delhi, India, in September 2018. The Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award is sponsored by the TT Club, FIATA and IATA. The international winner will receive a prize valued at approximately C$20,000, including trips to participate in various training programs around the world.
In January, CIFFA announced that Baptiste was selected as the 2018 Canadian Young Freight Forwarder of the Year. Every year, CIFFA awards a cash prize of $1,500 to a young individual who best represents the education, skills, knowledge and attitude to be an exceptional freight forwarder of the future. This prestigious award is also a stepping stone for younger individuals to gain recognition and status in the Canadian freight forwarding industry.
To compete at the Americas Region, Baptiste completed her second dissertation, the topics of which were designed by Fred Grootarz, a long-time CIFFA instructor, and were based on two projects. The first, an import of heavy equipment for a nuclear generating station in Tiverton, Ontario from the manufacturer in Poland, and the second, a transport proposal to a Canadian Humanitarian Relief Agency to reach the agency’s relief operations in the Central African Republic. Based on realistic scenarios with Canadian content, both were meant to encourage the candidate to apply her knowledge obtained from the CIFFA Certificate Courses.
Following her university studies in physical and health education, Baptiste started her full-time employment in the freight forwarding industry 6 years ago. While working, she completed the CIFFA Certificate and Advanced Certificate courses in which she received the highest marks award. Although her main background is ocean imports, she also has experience handling air import shipments along with quoting ocean/air imports and air exports. Baptiste is also qualified to handle air and ocean dangerous goods shipments.
