29 THE FORWARDER | SPRING 2025 The FIATA Headquarters Meeting is hosted annually in Geneva, the home of the FIATA HQ, and gathers together its Association Members for internal Advisory Body and Institute meetings. The FIATA HQ Meeting, held from March 17th – 19th, 2025, was attended by 230 participants from 51 countries. Over 30 key industry topics were discussed by some 40 speakers and moderators. The following is a summary of the work of the respective Advisory Bodies. FIATA Multimodal Transport Institute (MTI)-Reporting Chair: Mark Bromley For the year in review 2024, the main challenges for FIATA members in relation to the Institute/Body subject area centered around • Continuing world disruptions • Working towards the eCMR within the UN, an electronic version of the CMR consignment note aimed at facilitating international road transport by providing a standardized, digital framework for consignment notes The main deliverables/outcomes achieved by the Institute/Body were: • Working with the UN and IRU on ECMR • Supporting the FIATA WG Sea on its Best Practice Guide on Contracting With Ocean Carriers • Supporting the FIATA WG Road on its Best Practice Guide on Booking Road Haulage Services • Supporting the FIATA WG Road on Guide to Rail Transport Corridors • Working with the IRU on Joint policies regarding road transport Collaborations with other FIATA Institutes/Bodies: MTI – Working Group Sea, MTI – Working Group Road, MTI – Working Group Rail, Advisory Body Information Technology (ABIT), FIATA Region Europe Committee. Expected projects to be worked on and achievements by the Institute/Body in the coming year are: • Publishing WG Sea on Best Practice Guide on Contracting With Ocean Carriers • Publishing Best Practice Guide on Booking Road Haulage Services • Publishing Guide to Rail Transport Corridors • Finalizing work with the UN on eCMR and to push the usage Working Group Road Reporting Chair: Petr Rozek The main challenges for FIATA members in relation to the Institute/Body subject area are: • pressure to increase the share of rail transport within multimodal logistics • Fuel emissions control • Poor drivers’ working conditions • Aging infrastructure The working group delivered a best practice in contractinga road haulage contract – DRAFT And over the coming year, expects to finalize the FIATA best practice guide on booking haulage services, and to appeal to respective governmental bodies to ease the visa policy to foreign drivers.
