This recurrent course is acceptable for Freight Forwarders, Shippers and Operators. This course is updated yearly in line with the changes to the regulations. Note: online lessons with an instructor-supported virtual class require approximately 12 to 16 hours of study. This includes a 5-hour scheduled virtual workshop. (Copy of IATA DGR required.)

Course Description

This Recurrent course will focus on package marking and labelling, and documenting Dangerous Goods shipments. It will also review and test your understanding of how to classify and identify dangerous goods, along with hidden and forbidden dangerous goods, and excepted and limited quantities. The current edition of the IATA DGR is used as the main reference source for this program, and is provided for the participant's use while attending this program. Participants are provided a personal copy of advance reading and exercises, which are more advanced than the initial course.

Do I need the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations to complete this course?
Yes. You will need to acquire a copy of the latest IATA DGR to complete this course.  CIFFA DOES NOT provide these books, where possible please arrange to use your employer’s DGR.
Which category certificate is offered by this training?
This training covers all elements required for a category 6 certificate. Category 6 covers all required categories and topics for freight forwarders, shippers and operators. Learners will receive a certificate in accepting and processing dangerous goods that is compliant with Transport Canada requirements.
How is this course taught during the pandemic?
Online lessons are provided for the student to complete at their own pace, and a scheduled virtual class with an instructor is provided to review some of the difficult topics.  An online exam is also provided.  Students are given 4 weeks to complete the course.
I do not have a copy of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, can I still complete the course?
No. You will require a copy of the DGR Code to complete the course. Please ensure you have made arrangements to access the book from your employer BEFORE registering for the course.
Do you sell the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations?
No, we do not sell the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, but if you email us we can direct you to groups that do.
I have an older version of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, can it be used?
We recommend that you use the latest edition of the DGR, but the last edition can be used as long as you can Google the amendments made to that addition.
Do I need a certain grade to pass?
Yes, a passing score of 80% is required on the final exam.
